On Friday, 24 March, at 11:40 a.m., an important lecture on CYBERBULLYING — violence carried out through the internet or other technologies — took place in the session room of our school, for 8th-grade students. The guest speaker was Marco Abreu, an inspector from the Judiciary Police and a specialist in Technology and Information Security.
This lecture was organised by the students of our school’s Digital Leaders team.
Inspector Marco Abreu began the lecture by explaining the differences between traditional bullying and cyberbullying. He drew attention to the importance of reporting these situations and seeking support. According to him, “cyberbullying can be even crueller, as it takes place through digital tools and allows the aggressor to remain anonymous. In traditional bullying, the victim usually knows the aggressor, whereas in cyberbullying the victim rarely knows who is attacking them.”
Several actions have been carried out at our school over the last few years to prevent cyberbullying. We seek to guide, educate and clarify, rather than simply punish. There is no doubt that the internet is an excellent tool, but it must be used responsibly.
